Basic Rules

  1. Always turn pump off before opening or closing any valves, pump lids, filter tanks or removing automatic cleaner (Kreepy Krawly, Baracuda).

  2. Keep the water level approximately 1 - 1.5 inches below the top of the skimmer box.

  3. In Summer the pump needs to be run a minimum of 6-8 hrs per day plus swimming time depending on pool size / volume.

In Winter the pump needs to be run a minimum of 4-6 hrs per day plus swimming time depending on pool size / volume.

  4. Keep the pool area and surrounds clean. A clean pool area means a

cleaner and easier to maintain swimming pool.

  5. Avoid using fertilisers around the pool area as runoff with fertiliser in it, can cause expensive problems.

  6. Check equipment regularly. Preventative maintenance will save you money.

  2. Weekly - (check the filter pressure to see if cleaning is required - refer to Cleaning Filter)

  3. Weekly/Fortnightly in summer- check/clean the salt chlorinator cell and the filter. Fortnightly/ monthly in winter

  4. Monthly - take a water test into you pool shop for analysis

Cleaning Filters

Your filter needs cleaning when the pressure gauge reads as follows:

Sand                  +120kpa
Cartridge         + 100kpa
D.E. filter        + 100kpa

This is a guide only.  Some systems can exhibit different pressures.

After reassembling the D.E. filter, it must be recharged with manufacturers recommended amount of D.E. powder. Degrease filter candles if necessary, Filterbrite degreaser is available from your pool shop.

Cleaning Salt Chlorinator Cell

Salt Cells: Must be washed as needed to keep cell free of scale build-up. (Weekly in swimming season and fortnightly or monthly in Winter as a guide).

Stand the Cell cleaning tube in a bucket. Fill the tube with the cleaning solution (see below) place the cell in tube until free of scale. If reaction ceases and cell is still scaled up - repeat with fresh solution.

Products available for cleaning cells are:

Cell Clean Plus - Very gentle on the cell. Use Cell Clean Plus undiluted. Cell can be left in solution for some time (up to half an hour or longer if necessary). Spent solution in discarded.

Hydrochloric Acid - Harder on the cell. Solution is mixed one part Hydrochloric Acid to eight parts water. Do not leave cell in this solution for prolonged periods. Repeat if necessary with fresh solution. Spent solution is returned to pool.

Never attack your cell with any sharp or abrasive objects, preferably using plastic tools if necessary only.

Repeat process until clean
